2023 Annual Meeting Featuring Professor Christopher Hoyt
Featuring special guest speaker CHRISTOPHER HOYT, Professor of Law at the University of Missouri School of Law who will provide a presentation on TAX SMART CHARITABLE GIVING, ESPECIALLY WITH RETIREMENT ASSETS. The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act made it harder for donors to get income tax savings from their charitable gifts. This session will offer tax-saving strategies for donors, such as “bunching” gifts with donor-advised funds and making qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) from an IRA. He will examine the new law that permits donors over age 70 1/2 to make a tax-free transfer of up to $50,000 from an IRA to a charity in exchange for a lifetime charitable gift annuity. Finally, he will illustrate when heirs will have more wealth if a tax-exempt charitable remainder trust (CRT) is named as the beneficiary of an IRA, and when they won’t.
